25th Anniversary

'Tis the season of love, weddings and anniversaries!

These special cupcakes were a Sweetly Simple way to celebrate a 25th Wedding Anniversary.

The daughter of the lucky couple ordered Cookies n' Cream, Lemon White Chocolate, and Chocolate Vanilla.

The heart on the Cookies n' Cream was made sprinkling cocoa on the mini Oreo using a heart stencil.  We found the silver edible pearls at Michael's (after a failed attempt at another store where the container was labeled silver but the pearls were actually green).  And the garnish for the Chocolate Vanilla was made making hearts from melting chocolate and placing them on the cupcake.

Cupcake Bouquets

Nelay and I hope that all you mom's out there had an amazing Mother's Day and all you teacher's were spoiled during Teacher Appreciation Week!

In May we featured these sweet cupcake bouquets in honor of Mother's Day and Teacher Appreciation.

As the temperature started to rise here in Arizona it was a bit tricky to keep the frosting from melting off.  We learned that we needed to freeze them before delivery to prevent any slippage.  Fortunately, we were able to make repairs in time.

Each 3" terracotta pot was filled with 7 mini cupcakes.  The leaves were made of green tissue paper taped onto toothpicks placed in between each flower.  A 3" styrofoam ball was used to hold it all together.  To transport these beauties we purchased cake pop boxes and cut a
2 1/2 inch circle in the middle to help stabilize the pot.

I love being a mom, most of the time, and couldn't resist sharing this sweet letter from my 11 year old son for Mother's Day:

Dear Mom,

You're the best because you cook for me.  You also help me when I'm lost, on mountains.

You support me a lot and you help me.  You make epic cupcakes, breakfast, and occasionally you make dinner.  You cook like a master chef.  You're always there for me.

You support me in school, karate, and at home.  You try to spend as much time as you can with me.  You also sometimes take me to fun places like University Studios.

Thank you for being my mom.  I love you just as much as you love me.

Your Favorite Son,

Hayden

Superman Birthday

 Reason's We Love Superman:
  • He has great hair
  • His eyes are the most amazing color blue
  • He has "super" friends
  • He knows how to treat a lady
  • And he is the reason we were able to make these cupcakes for one little boy who loves him!(he was truly speechless when his mom opened the box to show him the cake....to say he gasped would be totally appropriate.  Made our day!)

Because of time constraints we were unable to purchase a fondant cutter to make the Superman logo,  so we tried something new for these "super" cupcakes.  I know, too many "supers" for one post?  Anyway, we found an great how to video from Nerdy Nummies on youtube using royal frosting (cookie frosting).  With some trial and error we were able to get it and loved how the colors stand out against the light blue.  The sprinkles added a special something and we were ecstatic how they came together!

It would be safe to say that these brought out the inner child in my husband who miraculously found a stack of Superman Comic books he's been hoarding for years.  Who knew?

Daisy Cupcakes

These sweet cupcakes were for an adorable girls birthday!  We love the simplicity of these cupcakes.  Red velvet and vanilla cupcakes topped with our creamy vanilla buttercream were the base for the delicate daisies and juniper green leaves.

The daisies are made from royal icing using a #104 and #102 tip for the petals.

Sock Monkey Birthday

Really, we had too much fun creating these sweet sock monkeys!
The monkeys were made using fondant and different size circle cookie cutters.  The eyebrows, nose and mouth were drawn on with an edible marker.

The buttons are also from fondant using circle cutters and the end of a bamboo skewer for the the button holes.  I have to admit they were so easy to make it could have become an obsession!

The white with red polka dot liners made these a favorite.  Rimmed with chocolate sprinkles and topped with a Sixlet candy they are so adorable!

Happy, happy birthday Hudson!

Happy Halloween!

It's the beginning of the crazy holiday season,
So we have a good reason
To begin this time of year
With a little Halloween Cheer!

We had too much fun creating these festive goodies!

For these creations we baked our Devil's Food and topped them with ganache, whipped ganache, and vanilla buttercream.

We were privileged to make some more for a special Halloween baby shower this past weekend.  Instead of the devil's food we made a Red Hot Velvet with whipped chocolate ganache for the Devil cupcakes.  The tails and horns were made using melted red candy chocolate.  Nelay was amazing making all of these little guys!

Courtesy of some orange center Oreo's, the Witches Hat's were created coupled with a Kiss and melted chocolate.  How cute are the witches boot wrappers?
To create the Ghosts we first dipped them in ganache then topped with a swirl of smooth vanilla buttercream.  The eyes are complements of some mini chocolate chips.
Finishing off our Halloween extravaganza is a the Spiderweb on top of a lemon with raspberry buttercream.  We experimented with 3 different styles: black gel on the frosting pulling a toothpick through to create a web, a white chocolate piped web, and a black piped web.  Considering the black gel may leave the guests with black teeth we quickly turned to the chocolate piped idea and ultimately used the black melting chocolates to create the web. (Unfortunately we do not have those pictured here.) You would think with 3 boys I would have had a picture of a spiderweb from all their Spiderman paraphernalia...alas I had to freehand them and must say they turned out just fine.
